Starstruck in Los Cabos: Meet Some Lavish Spa Havens

Los Cobos 6
By Mary Hughes

I had never been to Los Cabos and for those not-in-the-know it is a municipality located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, so not in California but in the state of Baja California Sur. It is a sophisticated paradise that is 1000 miles from the California Mexico border and to confuse you more there are two sides of the town-area – San José del Cabo, old town and new town is called Cabos San Lucas. This area has become extremely popular with celebrities who feel they can roam here much easier as the paparatzzi are few and far between.
One&Only Palmilla

The story here is this resort closed in 2003 for one year and 172 rooms were completely renovated and turned into complete jewels. They added an extravagant house soon to be famous called the Cortez Villa. Soon to be famous is right. The property reopened hosting John Travolta’s 50th birthday party. You can imagine that fanfare launch and many celebrity friends came and spent a week to help the movie star celebrate. The Travolta family stayed in the exclusive Cortez Villa which now rents out for $10-$25,000 per night. The resort re-opened as One&Only which is part of one of the world’s most exclusive resort family. There are only 11 in the world and this one happens to be in Los Cabos. Exclusive and lavish describes the atmosphere as you will think it is almost too good to be true. There are 900 employees to oversee the 173-guest accommodation ratio, so guests are guaranteed some spoiling privileges.

Guests are extremely pampered. For instance, imagine laying on the beach and a staff member comes over to clean your sunglasses, or to massage your legs and feet or they bring you an iPod charger from nowhere. At night over 2,000 candles are lit throughout the property and as you dine and dance under the stars you are illuminated by the flickering lights.

The rooms and suites all face the ocean and are appointed with luxurious everything, from linens to beds to bathtubs to sinks. For us normal folks this destination has become popular for a once-in-a-lifetime trip or special occasion. This lavish haven caters to everyone’s whim whether you are rich or not so rich everyone is treated the same here.

Room rates in low season start at $500 per night to $1000 per night in high season.

So you can just imagine the spa…It offers a tremendous experience and I don’t know what could surpass it.

My therapist led me to my own spa suite where outside I sat in a gorgeous chair and drank a ceremonial tea and had my feet washed. This is called the Signature Ritual, that practice that is influenced by a time honored Mexican tradition. I was then led into my own private villa where I experienced an incredible body scrub made of indigenous Baja ingredients. I then went into my private bath and rinsed off to come back to a freshly made table for a full massage. And I am not done…. I then was invited to go outside into the villa garden where a large outdoor tub was waiting for me with very warm water and I could sit outside in complete privacy. Indulgence wouldn’t even begin to describe this. Afterwards I was led back to the changing rooms where I sadly had to get dressed and leave. This spa is an example of supreme indulgence leaving you wanting more!
